On the other hand…Why would he decide to do this retreat?Did he not have enough results from all his previous studies and three-year previous retreats?! Anyone who knows the conditions in India would find this adventure foolhardy!He’s lucky(his own destiny protected him)that he didn’t simply die as has happened to many before him.India must have the highest microbial count per square meter in the entire Universe!.Also why is he doing an essentially Hindu practice being a Tibetan Buddhist himself?
because in the Tibetan Buddhist social system the monks are at the top and the Rinpoches the very top…he said that he was treated like a prince…which is true. Monks are highly privileged and get the best of everything. Also he was following the model of the buddha who had to leave the palace and wander to reach enlightenment. Our expectations and the methods and instructions that we put in place become themselves a barrier and prevent us from experiencing Reality..He also had to give up the expectation of enlightenment and surrender to death…
